People's Republic of China

Republic of China

  • Special administrative regions, also translated as "special administrative districts", historic administrative divisions set up by the Republic of China when it administered mainland China

    North Korea

  • Special administrative region: Sinŭiju Special Administrative Region (established 2002, present status unclear)

    Indonesia

  • Aceh, Special Region of Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam (Special Administrative Region of Aceh)
  • East Timor (formerly proposed, now a sovereign state)
  • Yogyakarta, Special Region of Yogyakarta (It is the only province in Indonesia that's still formally governed by a precolonial Sultanate)
